Foster Family Outside Bolton Wanderers Stadium

Bolton Council is part of Foster for Greater Manchester, a collaborative partnership between all 10 Greater Manchester local authorities. We support new and existing foster carers to provide safe and loving homes for children and young people.

Bolton Council is a not-for-profit organisation and is proud of its reputation for providing the best quality support for its foster carers, families, children and young people living in the borough of Bolton including; Astley Bridge, Blackrod, Bradshaw, Breightmet, Bromley Cross, Farnworth, Great Lever, Halliwell, Heaton, Horwich, Kearsley, Little Lever, Rumworth, Smithills, Tonge with the Haulgh, and Westhoughton.

Fostering is a professional role with responsibilities. Foster carers receive a regular tax-free financial allowance plus additional payments and benefits for each child in their care. The amount received depends on your experience as a foster carer, the type of fostering and the age of the child.

There are over 160 fostering households who are supported by one of the most experienced social work teams in the region. Bolton has its own Foster Carer Association and is part of the Mockingbird Family Model support programme.

The team hold a variety of regular support groups and social activities for carers, their birth children and foster children. These combine fun and leisure activities with opportunities to speak out about any concerns or share experiences.

Bolton provide ongoing support and training, so you are always learning new skills to help in your foster carer role. You will also have access to a detailed carers’ toolkit which will have everything you need to know.

By fostering with Bolton Council you will be supporting a local child or young person and allowing families to stay close to where they are from. Not only does this make it easier for you, it allows the children in your care to continue at the same school and stay connected with close families and friends. You are never on your own and will be part of a wider team of professionals who work together to improve the life chances and quality of life of our foster children.
