Foster for Greater Manchester has moved to the next phase of its development, expanding from a regional recruitment service to a more joined-up end-to-end fostering hub to deliver more consistent support to those wishing to become a foster carer.
Launched in June 2024, Foster for Greater Manchester is a collaborative partnership between all ten Greater Manchester local authorities, working together to grow the number of foster carers who can provide safe and loving homes for children and young people.
Building on the progress already made through a single front door for fostering enquiries, the Hub will bring together recruitment, training, assessment and approval. By pooling expertise it will offer greater consistency to prospective Greater Manchester foster carers.
This is an important step in our wider ambition to increase fostering capacity across Greater Manchester, give prospective foster carers a clearer and more supportive journey, and help more children and young people live in stable family homes closer to their communities.
The support that the Foster for Greater Manchester team provide begins right at the start of your journey to becoming a foster carer. The team is on hand to answer questions, explain each step of the process and provide guidance throughout.
Information is available to help make informed decisions and build confidence as a foster carer, and we'll provide opportunities for you to talk to existing foster carers. Full training and support is provided locally throughout the journey to be an approved foster carer.
On being approved as a foster carer, you'll receive unparalleled professional training and support from a dedicated team of fostering practitioners. You'll also become part of a large local network of foster carers who are there to offer peer support, assistance, advice, and encouragement.
