Stockport Council is part of Foster for Greater Manchester, a collaborative partnership between all 10 Greater Manchester local authorities. We support new and existing foster carers to provide safe and loving homes for children and young people.
Stockport Council is a not-for-profit organisation, and by fostering with us you'll be providing a loving home for local children and young people living in Stockport including; Bramhall, Brinnington, Bredbury, Edgeley, Davenport, Cheadle, Cheadle Heath, Chedle Hulme, Gatley, Hazel Grove, Heald Green, the Heatons, Marple, Offerton, Reddish, Stepping Hill and Woodley.
Fostering is a professional role with responsibilities. Foster carers receive a regular tax-free financial allowance plus additional payments and benefits for each child in their care. The amount received depends on your experience as a foster carer, the type of fostering and the age of the child.
Our foster carers play a vital role in providing safe and supportive homes for local children in care. You have the ability to change a child’s life by providing a stable and supportive home where children and young people will be cared for, are offered security and stability and allowed to flourish.
Our foster carers are rewarded for what they do and are paid a professional tax free weekly payments plus additional benefits and expenses for the child or children they care for.
As a foster carer, you will receive regular ongoing training and your own qualified social worker and specialist outreach team.
In Stockport you will also become part of our Mockingbird family. Mockingbird is like an extended family, offering practical and emotional support, similar to that a non-fostering family might receive from friends and relatives. Specially trained Mockingbird hub carers are like the glue that holds a family together. They are there to support the other families, offering a helping hand, sleepovers, last-minute childcare and arranging regular support meetings and social activities such as trips to the beach or the cinema.
Our monthly carer support groups provide opportunities to share best practice, and you’ll have access to social activities arranged by the Stockport Foster Care Association – a group run by local foster carers that provide support and advice for all foster carers
By fostering with us you will be supporting local children or young people, allowing families to stay close to where they are from. Not only does this make it easier for you, it allows the children in your care to continue at the same school and stay connected with close families and friends.
